Leyla’s Hunt [2021]
During the COVID-19 pandemic, windows and balconies became key thresholds through which individuals maintained contact with the outside world. While outdoor crime rates declined during this period, domestic violence against women increased by 27.8% in Turkey (Ünal & Gülseren, 2020). Leyla’s Hunt engages with this context through antique plates that once functioned as dowry objects.
Detached from their domestic roles, the plates are arranged according to the Orion constellation and connected through lace, following the constellation’s hunter formation. A celestial structure traditionally viewed in the sky is relocated indoors, shifting the position of observation and reconfiguring domestic space.
