Leyla’s Hunt [installation*2021]
There were windows and balconies between the channels that formed our spiritual contact with the sky during the compulsory confinement process within the framework of social isolation measures, which is the result of the COVID-19 pandemic process. While we were trying to breathe from these rectangular spaces, a decrease in crime rates was observed in outdoor areas, but at the same time, domestic violence against women increased by 27.8% in Turkey. (Unal, Gulseren, 2020). Dowry plates and bowls were broken, and wounds were opened in the souls. The antique plates that have aged and passed into the hands of the artist in Leyla’s Hunt have ceased to be dowry, have determined their destiny, and take their place in the sky. Plates placed by the Orion constellation abandoned their domestic household identities and were tied together with laces according to the ‘hunter’ position. Orion, one of the most prominent constellations viewed while looking at the sky, is now located indoors, those in the sky descend to the earth and are viewed from the balcony with a top-down view.
This installation is exhibited in AKBANK 39th Contemporary Artists Exhibition 2021.
